Ugh, writing first posts and introductions are the worst. Writing to someone you’ve known for a long while, or at least well enough to know they’ll listen - that’s easy! That’s also the exact reason it’s so difficult writing your first book or short story, and putting it into the public sphere.

I’ve been grinding away at my first novel for about 3.5 years now, and while it has been a very long and arduous process, I don’t regret the length of time a single bit. I’m halfway through the real rough draft (the NanoWriMo rough draft was so terrible I threw it away and didn’t even reference it for the next draft) I’m learning about myself as a writer - my style, my craft, my voice, and my skill. I’ve also learned about who my characters really are. The fact that I have stuck with this project for so long is because I believe in it, as a story, and no matter how few people ultimately read the finished project, I want to run this thing to completion. I want to DO this.

So why a blog?

I haven’t had the time or money to make a website yet, though that is definitely coming in the short term. I want to share some work, whet the appetite of a few people, and grow readership. I want to get folks as excited for this book as possible, and along the way I want to help people realize their aspirations of writing stories of their own. There are plenty of blogs out there for writing and indie publishing, but not so many for sci fi - at least, none that I have found. So that’s my niche, and it’s time for me to own it.
